Lakaz Chamarel Exclusive Lodge is set amidst the mountains of Chamarel and surrounded by natural beauty. If you are looking for somewhere to get away from it all, or seeking an alternative to a traditional beach resort for part of your stay in Mauritius, we cannot recommend Lakaz Chamarel highly enough.
Accommodation at Lakaz Chamarel comprises just 20 rooms and suites that have the feel of exclusive, mountain lodges. The standard and superior rooms are the closest to the main hotel facilities and overlook the resort’s two swimming pools. The garden pool suites meanwhile are found in various locations within the grounds and one suite even boasts a unique lakefront location. The sea view pool suites are our personal favourite - these are a little further from the main hotel facilities, but offer privacy and stunning ocean views from their elevated hillside position.
The restaurant at Lakaz Chamarel is set at the heart of the hotel grounds and showcases the finest Mauritian flavours and local produce. Breakfast includes eggs from the local village, homemade jam and a mouth-watering fresh fruit. A varied a la carte menu is offered for lunch and dinner, and a daily set menu is also offered in the evening, so there is no shortage of options for dinner! Just steps from the restaurant is the hotel’s cosy bar, where guests have the choice of being served by the attentive staff or can simply serve themselves if they prefer.
Lakaz Chamarel adjoins the picturesque village of Chamarel, home to the famous Seven Coloured Sands and Rhumerie de Chamarel. Within easy reach of the hotel are the hiking trails of the Black River Gorges national park, where visitors can experience spectacular scenery, beautiful waterfalls and plenty of interesting flora and fauna. Bicycle hire is available, and for those wanting to spend the day relaxing on the beach, there is a complimentary shuttle service operating three times a day.
Lakaz Chamarel boasts a stunning location high in the mountains, perfect for a quiet escape surrounded by beautiful scenery. I stayed in a Seaview Pool Suite and couldn't get enough of the views from the infinity pool. The suites don't have air-conditioning, but there was such a pleasant, cooling breeze that I did not find this to be an issue at all.
Rooms at Lakaz Chamarel are all individual Lodges dotted among the grounds. Each room is individually decorated and features a terrace and bathroom with an open-air shower. Amenities include air conditioning, a ceiling fan, citronella cream, bathrobes, slippers, pillow menu, minibar, hair dryer, tea and coffee making facilities, safe and complimentary Wi-Fi. Please note a Green Fee applies when using the air-conditioning.
Location: Lakaz Chamarel is located in the South-west of Mauritius, approximately a 60 minute drive from the Airport.
Children: Children over the age of 8 years of age are welcome at Lakaz Chamarel Exclusive Lodge, however please be advised that there are no facilities for families
Facilities: Two swimming pools, spa and sauna, yoga and meditation area, bicycles, small fitness centre, hiking and shuttle service to the beach
Dining: Stays at Lakaz Chamarel are on a half board basis. The Restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with an emphasis on Mauritian cuisine. Lunch is a la carte and for dinner, guests can choose between a set menu or an a la carte menu.
