Hideaway Beach Resort & Spa is, as the name suggests, a luxurious island hideaway in the pristine Haa Alif Atoll. Located on the previously uninhabited island of Dhonakulhi the resort island is a haven of peace, tranquillity and serenity. Dhonakulhi is a crescent shaped island, with white sand beaches stretching over a kilometre on either side and surrounded by a waist-deep lagoon with crystal clear turquoise waters. Hideaway is a paradise for snorkelling, thanks to its unique reef system that halves a natural channel, splitting it into two distinct parts and forming a natural harbour.

Stay in a luxurious and indulgent villa

Elegant villas are hidden away among coconut groves and lush vegetation overlooking the island's unspoilt beaches, or are set on stilts over the turquoise lagoon. The vast majority have a private plunge pool or Jacuzzi, and all come complete with an island host to ensure you are well looked after during your stay. With huge bedroom areas and oversized bathrooms, villas are extremely spacious and offer plenty of privacy, not to mention uncompromised luxury.

From lagoon side to private dining...

With an exciting range of gourmet dining options, guests will be taken on a culinary journey during their stay at Hideaway Beach Resort, with around 70% of produce coming from the resort's own farm! From relaxed poolside dining and beachfront grills to elegant Asian fusion cuisine, there are plenty of options to tempt your taste buds. Private dining options are also available that make the most of Hideaway’s paradise location, from private beach barbecues to seafood feasts in an overwater dining pavilion.

Explore the unspoilt house reef

Many guests will choose to spend their time at Hideaway Beach Resort exploring the crystal clear waters that surround the island. The superb house reef is teeming with marine life, and there are over 30 pristine dive sites within easy reach of the resort. Back on land, extensive leisure facilities include a Golf Centre, complete with eco-friendly bio balls, and an outdoor cinema for movie nights under the stars. We’d highly recommend exploring the island on one of the resort’s bicycles, and make sure you pop over to the Floating Aqua Park - as popular with adults as it is with children!

Our opinion

Hideaway’s remote location means you find yourself on a picture perfect island, surrounded by turquoise waters as far as the eye can see. The other advantage of this Atoll is that the reefs are vibrant and the dive sites are nowhere as busy as elsewhere in the Maldives. While I was on the island I had a go at night snorkelling - this was an incredible experience and one I would highly recommend.

All 110 villas and suites are spacious and luxuriously designed and set in either beach or lagoon positions. All villas have king beds, air conditioning, ceiling fans, satellite television, DVD/Blu-ray player, telephone, in-room safe, minibar and tea and Nespresso coffee making facilities. Each villa also comes with two bicycles, as well as their own butler.

Meeru Bar and Grill is open for lunch and dinner and offers relaxed dining by the pool with wood fired pizzas, meat cooked on the Lava Stone Grill and lobster straight from the ocean. Samsara Asian Fusion is perched on stilts over the lagoon offering a fusion of Thai, Indian and Japanese cuisine for dinner. Sunset Pool Café is open for lunch and dinner and serves European influenced dishes accompanied by beautiful views.
