Baros Maldives is a lush tropical island in North Male Atoll, set in a shallow lagoon surrounded by a reef, rich in marine life. The resort has been welcoming guests since 1973, and as such is one of the most established resort islands in the Maldives with a superb reputation for luxury and barefoot elegance. Baros is a member of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World group and is regularly recognised with accolades. This resort is iconic, and if you are looking for a taste of authentic Maldivian hospitality, we can’t recommend this island highly enough.

Traditional yet luxurious villas

Elegant timber and sandstone villas stand on stilts over the water or are nestled among the exotic blooms that fringe the beach, creating the perfect Maldivian escape. Villas are elegantly designed and beautifully furnished with large windows to let in plenty of natural light. Despite their traditional and authentic outward appearance, they are also complete with the luxurious amenities and comforts you would expect from a 5-star resort.

Fine dining with panoramic ocean views

Baros has earned an excellent reputation for cuisine. Guests can enjoy all day dining on the waterside at the thatched Lime restaurant and grilled meats and seafood in gazebos overlooking the lagoon at Cayenne Grill. Our personal favourite though is the Lighthouse Restaurant, an over-water pavilion with a stunning sail roof where gourmet dinners are served accompanied by fine wines. Be sure not to miss the live music at The Lighthouse Lounge, where you will be blown away by the panoramic sunset and ocean views. Guests can also indulge in destination dining experiences, such as a sunset dinner cruise on a Dhoni or a picnic on a sandbank - Baros has a dedicated dining team to take care of it all.

An island renowned for its house reef

The Maldives is all about relaxation and Baros is no exception. The island is also a great base for diving and snorkelling, with a lagoon that is teeming with fish and a house reef just 20 metres from the shore with amazing marine life. Baros is the gateway to 30 dive sites with a biodiversity of marine life to excite even the most experienced diver. The island has been declared the first eco-dive centre in The Maldives and offers PADI courses to suit all abilities and interests. A unique feature of Baros is the Maldivian Lounge, a small museum of antique maps and locally made artefacts - adding a cultural dimension to your Maldivian escape!

Our opinion

There is no place in the world like Baros. I've seen plenty of lagoons and beaches in my travels, but none quite as breathtaking as this. Not to mention the sense of class and luxury in such a beautifully built resort. One of the Maldives' finest.

Room Types

Baros has a total of 75 villas, with 45 located on the beach and 30 perched over the water. All villas offer a 24-hour villa host, a king-size bed, private veranda or sun deck with sun loungers, a bathtub and separate shower, a beach bag and flip flops, bathrobes and slippers, WiFi, kettle and Espresso machine, TV, hairdryer, in-room safe, telephone, in-villa bar, wine chiller, iron and ironing board, air conditioning and ceiling fan, pillow menu and yoga mats.

Deluxe Beach Villas

These villas are dotted along the shoreline with natural shade from the palms and offering direct beach access

Baros Suite

These luxurious villas are set within their own tropical glade, offering beach access, a private infinity pool and a thatched gazebo with swing seat

Baros Residence

This spacious and luxurious villa offers a private stretch of beach and a wide timber deck complete with sun loungers and an infinity pool
Inside there is a separate bedroom and living room, a bathroom with deep soaking tub and shower, and an outdoor rain shower
Guests are entitled to additional amenities including daily canapes, best table allocation in all restaurants and luxury private speed boat transfers

Hotel Information

Location: Baros is located in North Male Atoll and is reached by a 25 minute speedboat transfer

Children: Children aged 8 and above are welcome, but please note there is no Kids Club

Dining: Stays at Baros are on a bed and breakfast , half board or half board dine around basis. Lime Restaurant is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner and serves international favourites as well as Maldivian specialities. Cayenne Grill overlooks the lagoon and serves grilled meats and seafood in an alfresco setting, as well as offering a tempting Teppanyaki menu. The Lighthouse Restaurant is an elegant fine dining venue set in a pavilion above the lagoon, where gourmet cuisine is accompanied by fine wines. Sails Bar offers a laid back setting amongst the palms to enjoy a drink and light snack. The Lighthouse Lounge is located on the top deck under the sail roof of the lighthouse restaurant and is the perfect spot to enjoy a sundowner and some live music
