The Ocean Pro Dive Centre at Mirihi can cater for all levels of divers, whether that be those taking their first breaths underwater or for more experienced and professional divers. With over 40 diving sites and a multilingual team, every guest is in the best hands and in the best location to explore the ocean. Mirihi is also in the unique position of having the possibility of spotting whale sharks the whole year through. There are a number of dives available dependent on ability including a deep dive, drift dive, night dive and shark dive, all lead by one of the seven experienced staff. All of the equipment is complimentary so there is no need to fill your suitcases with snorkels and wetsuits.
The diving centre at Makunudu is located just on the beach – with a direct entry to a slowly sloping lagoon and a protected house reef with many different species of fish and several resident turtles, eagle rays and harmless nurse sharks – even Manta rays occasionally pass by. Makunudu has been run by Dive Oceans since 2001 and is a PADI 5 Stars Gold Palm Resort. The diving centre is naturally built with a coconut roof, fitting in to the scenery of the local area. It is also a hub of information, where guests can come and look at fish books, watch documentaries or just have a chat about diving, it is the perfect place to start your diving experiences.
The house reef at Filitheyo is one of the finest resorts in the Maldives for diving as it is in great health and there are seven marked access points. On the house reef you can discover all kinds of exciting and exotic marine life including reef fish, rays, turtles, sharks, eels and lobsters. In the surrounding area, Fafu Atoll, you can explore by dive boat excursion, more than 40 pristine reefs.
There is a range of SSI courses for uncertified divers or anyone wanting to further their training or if you are already a certified diver, once you have completed an orientation dive you are free to discover the house reef with your buddy. Highlights can include ghost pipefish, napoleon wrasse, frogfish, reef sharks, nurse sharks, small caves and two wrecks.
With its excellent house reef and proximity to Hanifaru Bay, Dusit Thani Maldives is a haven for keen snorkellers and divers. An onsite PADI 5* dive centre offers courses ranging from introduction to advanced level, as well as speciality courses and snorkelling excursions. The centre run multiple dives each day from its dhonis, with larger boats available for larger groups. On site activities include world-class snorkelling, night dives and fluoro diving.
The nearby Hanifaru Bay is one of the best places in the world to observe reef mantas performing their rarely seen cyclone feeding. Dive sites in this area also include plunging walls, pinnacles, and powerful ocean currents. The Baa Atoll is a great place to try drift diving, visit a cleaning station, or explore the tropical sea life below 30 metres. The fantastic visibility and a colourful backdrop of coral also make this a great place for keen underwater photographers to practice wide-angle photography skills.
