The Great House, Antigua

The Great House is an adults only, boutique hotel that offers something completely unique in Antigua, blending history, charm and authentic Caribbean hospitality. Set in the sweeping 26 acre estate of Mercers Creek, the Great House is the last remaining stone estate house on the island, and one of just a handful of estate houses open to guests in the Caribbean. The Great House contains many of its original features, as well as boasting stunning sea views among swaying palm trees.

Georgian history meets Caribbean charm

Each of The Great House's private and spacious suites are unique in design. Some are set in the historic house, and others are set in the gardens, offering seclusion and privacy. Décor blends Caribbean aesthetics, Georgian history and modern luxury throughout. We particularly liked the four cottage suites nestled within the tropical gardens, with traditional Antiguan pyramid roofs, vaulted ceilings and private terraces.

Al fresco dining and candle-lit dinners

Stays at The Great House can either be on a half board or full board basis, which includes a selection of soft drinks. Breakfast and lunch are served in the open-air canopied restaurant and dinner is held in the candle-lit dining room of the main house - a really special experience.

Explore the island or relax by the pool

The Great House can either be used as a base for exploring the island, or you can simply relax in the hotel’s tranquil grounds. Guests can immerse themselves in the beautiful gardens surrounding the main house, take part in weekly wellness classes and enjoy the Mercers Creek waterfront. It is also a great spot for scenic hikes, and a range of excursions can be arranged locally.

Our opinion

This is a really charming and traditional little hotel with a homely feel and so much character. It is adults only, and the tropical gardens help to create a sense of tranquillity and seclusion. This would be a lovely option for a couple looking for a unique and intimate holiday experience.

Suites at The Great House are all unique in design. All rooms offer air-conditioning, ceiling fans, a bathroom with shower, a mini-fridge, tea & coffee making facilities, a safe, and dressing gowns.

The Pineapple Suite

This light and airy suite is situated in the historic house and features two single four-poster beds and private use of the adjacent bathroom with shower overlooking the Chinese Garden
Offering easy access to the pool and lower gardens via the relaxation room

The Dukes Suite

This suite is set in the historic house and is incredibly spacious and features a king size, four poster bed
The room is fitted with plenty of original furnishings

The French Suite

This enchanting suite is set in the historic house and decorated in regal red, with double doors that open up to a French balcony overlooking the gardens
Featuring a French four poster bed dating back to the 1800s, fitted wardrobes and an 1800s writing desk and bookshelf.

The Royal Suite

The Royal Suite is in the historic house and exudes history and elegance
