If you are looking for a boutique, adults only retreat perfect for a quiet or romantic getaway, then look no further than Cocobay Resort on the west coast of Antigua. With its elevated location on a hillside overlooking Ffryes Bay, the resort is surrounded by tropical rainforest and offers spectacular views over the white sand beach and clear turquoise waters below.
Accommodation at Cocobay is in charming pastel-painted cottages reminiscent of traditional Caribbean chattel houses. All rooms have a private veranda with a hammock, the majority boasting striking sea views. It is worth upgrading to a Deluxe Pool Cottage which has a private plunge pool, or a Premium Pool Suite which also has an outdoor bathtub in which guests can recline while looking out to sea.
Cocobay’s main restaurant is Rafters, an intimate venue where guests can enjoy meals throughout the day. All meals are à la carte, so this is a great option for those who prefer to avoid buffets! Sheer Rocks is the resort’s second restaurant which is also open to non-residents and isn’t included in the all-inclusive package. Enjoying a dramatic setting on a wooden terrace overlooking the rocks below, the restaurant serves Mediterranean influenced cuisine alongside a unique tapas menu.
Cocobay boasts a small spa, an infinity pool to complement its fine beaches, and non-motorised water sports such as kayaking and sailing. The resort is also within easy reach of Jolly Harbour, which is popular with visitors thanks to its selection of shops and restaurants.
As I wandered around the resort I was constantly in awe of the breath-taking views over the white beaches and turquoise sea – I would definitely recommend Cocobay to couples who are looking for somewhere picturesque and romantic with a feeling of rustic luxury.
All 65 cottages at Cocobay have been crafted with authentic Caribbean materials and furnished with local wooden furniture. Guests can enjoy beautiful views from their private verandahs complete with chairs and hammocks. Inside, guests can enjoy a king-size or twin beds (on request), a bathroom with a shower, tea and coffee making facilities, a safe, air-conditioning, ceiling fan and a hair dryer.
