Jess has just returned from an exciting trip to Grenada. It was her first time visiting the island and she loved seeing some of our most popular hotels first hand, as well as exploring everything else that this unique destination has to offer.
Exploring the island
Grenada is one of the most southerly of the Windward Islands and is known as the ‘Spice Island’ of the Caribbean. The island is famous for its spice and cocoa production and is also home to Grand Anse Beach – a 2 mile stretch of palm fringed sands and arguably one of the world’s best beaches! Heading inland from the stunning coastline, Grenada boasts a rich volcanic landscape, with dense tropical forests and beautiful waterfalls to explore.
Jess loved visiting Annandale Waterfall. This stunning waterfall is easily reachable and with a small bar and restaurant on site, it is a great spot to relax and sip a rum punch. You can even go for a dip in the waterfall if you want to cool down. Another way to experience some of the island’s natural beauty is to walk around Grand Etang National Park along one of the hiking trails. Your guide will tell you all about the different varieties of trees and their uses on the island and there is also the opportunity to plant a tree as part of a local conservation programme.
One of the most famous attractions in Grenada is the Underwater Sculpture park – a unique collection of statues on the ocean floor that visitors can snorkel around or dive down to. Jess went on a boat trip from Grenada Yacht Club and stopped off to snorkel around the Sculpture Park before carrying on to Hog Island. This small, local island is around 40 minutes by boat from Grenada and is popular with both tourists and locals. Jess said the island had a lovely atmosphere, and with a small bar serving lunch and drinks, it was the perfect spot to relax for the afternoon.
Where to stay
Jess split her stay in Grenada between Silversands and Spice Island Beach Resort. Spice Island is a firm favourite in the Tropic Breeze office, whilst Silversands is a relatively new resort, also set on the iconic Grand Anse Beach.
Jess thought the grounds at Silversands were absolutely beautiful and she found the rooms to be very spacious, modern and extremely well appointed. She was also very impressed by the extensive spa offering a wide range of treatments and therapies. At Spice Island, Jess was blown away by the warm welcome on arrival and the overall atmosphere of the hotel. One of the highlights of her stay was the exceptional cuisine, particularly dinner at Oliver’s restaurant. She also loved staying in a Sea Grape suite and relaxing on her terrace opening out onto Grand Anse Beach.
Jess also visited several other hotels whilst she was on island, including Calabash Grenada, Mount Cinnamon, Laluna and True Blue Bay Boutique Resort. She liked the quirky and relaxed atmosphere at True Blue Bay and took part in a very interesting experience whilst there – Chocolate Yoga, where yoga is combined with chocolate tasting! When visiting Mount Cinnamon, she enjoyed wandering around the tropical gardens and thought the views over grand Anse Beach from the rooms were stunning.
One of the best dining experiences of Jess’ trip was dinner at Laluna. The food was amazingly presented in a stunning setting and accompanied by a lovely laid back atmosphere. Another highlight was lunch at Calabash, which Jess thought was exceptional. She was very impressed by this beautiful hotel and the impeccable levels of service they offer.
