The beautiful island of Bequia is the second largest of the Grenadine islands – a chain of small islands stretching around 50 miles from St Vincent in the north to Grenada in the south. The Grenadines are an ideal destination for those looking to experience something a little more off the beaten track and offer some of the best snorkelling and sailing in the Caribbean. Bequia is an authentic island hideaway. It exudes character and charm in equal measure and works well as either a standalone destination or as a twin-centre with islands such as Barbados or St Lucia.

Exploring the island
Bequia is a fascinating island and is well worth exploring during your stay. One of the highlights is of course its spectacular beaches, but there are also plenty of places of interest to visit, such as a turtle sanctuary and tropical fruit plantations. Why not spend a day wandering around the island’s capital, Port Elizabeth, and pay a visit to the local markets and quaint cafes. History lovers meanwhile can pay a visit to the Bequia Heritage museum and learn about the island’s proud seafaring heritage – Bequia was once thought of as the boat building capital of the West Indies.
Exploring off shore
The Grenadines are home to some of the best snorkelling and diving in the Caribbean and Bequia is no exception. There are over 30 dive sites within easy reach of the island and two PADI dive centres to choose from. For snorkelling, there is a small reef just of Friendship Bay, or why not arrange a trip to Tobago Cays? This unspoilt archipelago offers pristine snorkelling and on your way there you will sail past stunning islands like Mustique. For a truly authentic sailing experience, take a day trip on the Friendship Rose – a historic trading schooner.
