At Tropic Breeze, we firmly believe that to offer the best possible service to our clients, we need to have experienced the hotels and destinations we sell first hand. When Tropic Breeze Founder Jo Plummer was last in the Caribbean, she spent a few days in Bequia so that she could re-visit one of our favourite properties, Bequia Beach Hotel, and reacquaint herself with this charming island.
There is something very special about Bequia. Located in the Grenadines, the island remains somewhat off the beaten track and offers an authentic taste of the Caribbean, with many spectacular beaches and excellent snorkelling locations. It is also home to Bequia Beach Hotel on Friendship Beach, which is where Jo stayed whilst she was on island.
Jo combined her visit to Bequia with a stay in Barbados. Access to Bequia is usually via a short flight from Barbados, and guests staying at Bequia Beach Hotel can enjoy the hotel’s exclusive private charter service – Bequia Air. It is possible to connect from the UK to Bequia on the same day, but it is a great option to stay a few nights in Barbados before travelling onwards. Bequia Air also offer a weekly flight to and from St Lucia, for those looking to combine these two destinations.
Bequia Beach Hotel is a colonial-style hotel that combines luxury, elegance and charm with excellent cuisine, a beautiful location and a relaxed atmosphere. In terms of accommodation options, there is something to suit everyone, from classic rooms overlooking the tropical gardens to luxurious suites with ocean views. Jo stayed in a beachfront suite, and loved the traditional yet unique décor, as well as the spaciousness of the suite and expansive views.
Guests staying at Bequia Beach Hotel are spoilt for choice when it comes to dining options. Not only does the island have an excellent restaurant scene, but the hotel also boasts 2 restaurants and a beach bar. Guests can enjoy a fusion of local and international dishes on the beachfront veranda at Bagatelle Restaurant, whilst Blue Tropic Restaurant blends Caribbean influences with Italian cuisine. The hotel also owns the recently renovated Jack’s Bar & Restaurant, a nearby beach bar on the beautiful Princess Margaret Beach which can be accessed by a shuttle service. A highlight of Jo’s stay was watching the sun set from Jack’s bar whilst enjoying some delicious cocktails and nibbles.
For those keen to get out on the beautiful waters surrounding the island, guests can enjoy the use of paddleboards and kayaks at Jack’s Beach Bar. Jo would highly recommend arranging a boat trip to explore the neighbouring islands whilst in Bequia. Bequia Beach Hotel can offer a trip on their exclusive private yacht, Star of the Sea, or if you prefer a more traditional sail boat, this can also be arranged locally. Jo took a trip to Tobago Cays during her stay, which is famous for its marine park and amazing snorkelling. She enjoyed exploring the calm waters and getting up close to some beautiful marine life, such a starfish and turtles.
